Recycling and Energy Center

R&ECenter All trash collected in Washington County goes to the Ramsey/Washington Recycling and Energy Center in Newport. There, it’s processed to recover metal for recycling and to produce a fuel used by Xcel to generate electricity./p>

By processing waste instead of landfilling it, the counties:

  • Protect your groundwater.
  • Reduce greenhouse gas emissions – the equivalent of taking 21,000 cars off the road each year.
  • Generate electricity – fuel produced at the R&E Center allows Xcel to produce enough electricity to power over 12,500 homes each year.
  • Ensure that waste is managed to protect health and the environment.
