State of emergency declared by Washington County Board of Commissioners to address flooding The Washington County Board of Commissioners declared a state of emergency June 28 to address the current flooding situation in the county. The County Board met June 28 during an emergency meeting to consider the declaration. The declaration allows the Emergency Management Division of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office to support municipalities in the county and take necessary actions to protect public infrastructure and respond to public safety concerns. Several cities in Washington County are actively engaged in protective measures to mitigate flood effects to public infrastructure. Washington County Emergency Management advised the County Board that due to the number of communities at risk, the supply of resources to support requests for assistance could reach beyond county assets. With the approval of the declaration, the county’s Emergency Operations Plan will be activated. The state of emergency will continue in effect for 30 days, or until such time that emergency response or recovery efforts are no longer required.
