Marriage License

Applications can only be processed at the Government Center in Stillwater.

You may apply for a marriage license in Washington County regardless of residence or where the ceremony is taking place as long as you are married within the geographical boundaries of Minnesota.

Fee

The application fee is $125 (or a reduced fee of $50*).  Cash or check only. 
*If you have obtained pre-marital education as per M.S. 517.08 and present a completed Reduced Marriage Fee Educator’s Statement (PDF) at the time when you appear in person to sign and pay the fee. 

Requirements

Applicants must provide proof that they are at least 18 years of age.

Applicants must appear in person at the Washington County Government Center, 14949 62nd Street, Stillwater, to take an oath and pay the fee within seven days of filling your application.

 All fields must be entered on the application:

  • Full name. 
  • Full name you wish to have after marriage. 
  • Current address. 
  • Social security number, if you have one.
  • Date and place of birth.
  • Information regarding any previous marriage(s).
  • Address after marriage.

We offer same day Marriage License issuance. The marriage license is valid for six months from the date of application.
