Washington County spring weight restrictions for county roads
Spring weight restrictions will go into effect on Washington County roads at 12:01 a.m., Tuesday, March 3. Restrictions will be in effect for eight weeks, unless extraordinary conditions require extending them. Get details...
The Washington County Transportation Department maintains 226 miles of County State Aid Highways (CSAH) and 59 miles of County Roads.
It consists of the following five sections shown in the tabbed menu below.
- Plan, design, and inspect highway construction and improvement projects
- Perform annual bridge safety inspections
- Maintain the County's pavement management system
- Vehicle maintenance on all vehicles within the department, including single- and tandem-axle trucks, graders, dozers, loaders, tractors, heavy and light-duty pick-ups, cars, and trailers
- Vehicle maintenance on all county vehicles, including all vehicles within the Sheriff’s Office
- Maintenance on all equipment used within the department, including mowers, chainsaws, and hydraulic equipment
Provide transportation planning and engineering expertise for alternative modes of transportation, including commuter rail and light rail transit.

- Year-round maintenance on the county’s 274-mile highway system
- Clear snow and ice from roadways
- Pave and patch roadways
- Re-grade gravel shoulders
- Repair and replace culverts and storm sewers
- Repair damaged guardrail
- Control weeds and mow within the county right of way

- My mailbox was knocked down by the snow plows. What do I do?

You can either call 651-430-4300 or Report a Concern (green button above). The Maintenance Supervisor will inspect any damage to mailboxes on county roads. Washington County does not replace mailboxes or posts damaged by the force of moving snow. A swing away style mailbox is designed to minimize the risk of damage from plowed snow and is what is suggested.
- I live on a county road. Who do I contact to have a swing arm mailbox installed?

All Washington County residents that reside on a county road may have a swing-away style mailbox installed for $150.00. Please submit a Mailbox Request Form to Washington County Public Works via email or mail to 11660 Myeron Rd N, Stillwater MN, 55082. For additional information, please call 651-430-4300.
- Who do I contact about a dead deer or other animal on a county road?

If the animal is located on a County Road or Road Right of Way, call 651-430-4300 or Report a Concern (green button above) and the animal will be disposed of. If the animal is located on a state or city street, you must contact the appropriate authority. If the animal is on private property, it is the responsibility of the property owner.
