Get to know the Washington County Board of Commissioners

Elected commissioners represent Washington County residents. Commissioners enact local ordinances, develop policy, and makes and amends laws for the county. They also establish the county's budget and tax levy, set policies for delivery of services, and provide leadership to the county. Washington County has five commissioners who represent their county district.

The Board elects a chair and vice chair. The chair is the presiding officer during the board meetings, and the vice chair presides in the chair's absence. In 2026, Commissioner Karla Bigham will serve as chair and Commissioner Bethany Cox will serve as vice chair.

Meetings

Board meetings are most Tuesdays at 9 a.m. Some meetings may be workshops only. The public is welcome to attend. See county calendar to confirm dates.

Commissioner Districts and Boundaries

District boundaries are redefined after every federal census to meet the requirements of Minnesota statute. Under state law, any district that experiences a 5% or greater change in its population requires a new election, even if the full four-year term of its commissioner has not been completed.
